Christine Rosencrans - “Autumn Perspective”
Juror’s Remarks
The composition of this photograph has some strength by way of the angle and curved line of the headstone echoing the curve of the tree trunk to its right - leading you visually into the cemetery. The empty space in the foreground is a nice peaceful area of the image and helps set off the power of the one big headstone, which announces the image and lets you know where you are. The background reflects the beauty of Vine Lake Cemetery: nice, evenly spaced headstones set amidst a wonderful backdrop of trees, bushes and hillsides.
Congratulations to Christine who submitted the only photograph in the adult category.

Emily Rosencrans - “Autumn at Vine Lake Cemetery”
Juror’s Remarks
The prominence in the foreground of the gray man-made headstone (cross) with its inset inscription, juxtaposed to the wonderfully splayed chaotic limbs of the natural brown and colorful tree creates a strong visual image. The vivid contrast brings out strength in each - and together - with a nicely balanced light - reflects the shared beauty of both man and nature at Vine Lake Cemetery
Congratulations, Emily.

Jack Farrell - “Grasshopper”
Juror’s Remarks
The power of this image comes from its close proximity to the delicate grasshopper against the strong powerful gray and snow-covered curved lines of the headstone. The contrast of the clearly focused - but small insect - against an out of focus foreground and background - gives strength and insight into nature - while the gray man-made element sits quietly diffused, softly covered in snow.
Congratulations again, Jack.

Jack Farrell - “Autumn Glass”
Juror’s Remarks
There appears a wonderful quiet balance in this photograph. The road cutting across the middles act as an horizon…but with a reverse, but logical consequence - this being a cemetery. All above the road (the heavens) - including the visible grave marker to the right up the hill - are clear and sharp. While all below the road (earth) is a slightly blurred reflection of the trees and sky. The rounded bridge in the center of the photograph draws you into the image and echoes the cyclical nature of life.
Congratulations, Jack.
