Thank you very much to these contributors.

The Funding Societies recognize persons and organizations that make annual contributions to Vine Lake Preservation Trust for completing its mission.  The Trust has designed these Societies to recognize contributors and to honor distinguished persons buried in the cemetery.   



Hannah (Ellis) Rockwood Society ($500 and above)

She is recognized as the first white female born in Medfield in 1651, was the mother of 5 daughters and 3 sons, and died in 1717 at age 66.



Samuel Smith Society ($250-$499)

A life-long resident of Medfield who survived the 1676 Indian attack as a twenty month old falling unconscious from his mother’s arms as she was being tomahawked to death, he became a church deacon, served many years on Town boards, was a representative to the General Court, and died in 1742 at age 68.



Jeremiah Ballou Hale Society ($100-$249)

He served as a Selectman, a member of the School Committee and the Cemetery Committee, Town Clerk, Postmaster, was the superintendent of the Excelsior Straw Works, and hand-copied the town records after fire destroyed the Town Hall in 1874.  He died in 1899 at age 69.



The Reverend Joseph Baxter Society (up to $100)

The second minister in Medfield, arriving in 1697 at age 21, he served the church for 48 years, and died in 1745 at age 69.



Ephraim Wheelock Society (planned gift)

He served four years in the French & Indian war, was a captain at the siege of Louisburg, and became a colonel in the Revolutionary war during which he commanded a regiment at Ticonderoga and Crown Point.  He died in 1826 at age 93. Please contact the Trust about how to make your planned gift.



Samuel Greene Society

(gifts made in 5 consecutive years)

An African-American laborer who owned property on Frairy  Street, he died in 1875 at age 85. This Society encompasses a  special group of donors who have demonstrated their  commitment to the Trust through consistent financial support  regardless of amount.
